Navigating Grief: There Is No “Right Way”

Grief is one of the most personal and complex emotional experiences a person can go through. While it is often associated with the loss of a loved one, grief can also arise from other forms of loss, including changes in health, relationships, or life circumstances.


One of the most common misconceptions about grief is that it follows a predictable process. In reality, grief does not follow a straight line. It can shift from day to day, sometimes feeling manageable and at other times overwhelming.


People often feel pressure to return to normal functioning within a certain timeframe. This expectation can create additional stress and make individuals feel as though they are grieving incorrectly.


Counselling offers a space where grief can be experienced without judgement or expectation. It allows individuals to process their emotions at their own pace and in a way that feels natural.


Another important aspect of grief counselling is helping individuals make sense of their experience. This includes understanding emotional responses, identifying patterns, and gradually finding ways to integrate the loss into their life.


Grief does not disappear, but it can change over time. With the right support, individuals can begin to find moments of stability, meaning, and connection again.
